Prabhakar Shinde, a BMC corporator and BJP group leader, has accused the Municipal Secretary (MS) Department of corruption. Shinde said that MS department workers took an Rs. 5500 bribe to send proposal copies to contractors. Shinde recently wrote to BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, drawing his notice to illegalities in the MS department.

Shinde stated in a letter that the most recent standing committee meeting was conducted on March 7 and that 272 proposals were kept pending at that time. Following that, as an administrator, Commissioner passed several suggestions, but no copies of those ideas were distributed to anybody. Corporations receive these copies after submitting an RTI, and contractors must pay bribes of Rs.5500 to staff for the copies.

Many MS department personnel collected millions of rupees from contractors during the administrator's final three months in office. Employees' actions are tarnishing BMC's reputation. Shinde said that corruption claims were levelled against MS department workers multiple times, that investigations were performed on some of them, and that similar acts of corruption continue to occur today. He also mentioned the possibility that no one would dare to commit corruption in the absence of top department executives. Shinde eventually requested an investigation and harsh punishment for those involved.
