The Shinde family brought two Gauri's rather than a Ganpati to the Girgaon Chowpatty for immersion. The Jadhav family had a single Ganpati and a single Gauri. Although they were related and had gathered for the immersion, their customs highlighted the many ways that different households commemorate the Ganesh festival. Additionally, most household Ganpati celebrations came to an end on Monday.
Since I can remember, we have had a Gauri in our home. Mangala Shinde prayed before two statues of Gauri before were immersed. "It was always riwaz (tradition) to obtain two Gauri's at home and not Ganpati," she added. She continued, "Ganpati was never brought home until a request was granted. The Jadhav’s performed aarti for Gauri and Ganpati while the Shinde’s worshipped Gauri. Surekha Jadhav stated, "We have been receiving Gauri and Ganpati for the past 30 years. She gave out candy and prasad to everyone nearby after the aarti.
The immersions at Girgaum began after schedule, yet there was a lot of excitement among those who travelled great distances to visit the Chowpatty. We prefer to come here even though we live in Parel. We have been submerging the idol in man-made ponds for the past two years. We considered coming here today. Whatever the case, our Ganpati is environmentally benign, so it won't contaminate the water source, claimed Janhavi Solkar, who had travelled from Parel. The Solkar family doesn't perform Gauri puja. Gauri has never existed in our family.
One family had travelled from Dombivali, whereas Janhavi was a native of the city. We formerly resided here. But afterward, we changed. We have come here to immerse our idol because we have a connection to this location, explained Poonam Waghmode, who had travelled from Dombivili with her family. On the first day of immersion, people began to arrive early, but on Monday, the throng arrived later. The tourists were the ones who had come to see the immersions. One of the employees at Girgaon Chowpatty predicted that more people will arrive after 5 or 6 o'clock.
