The elections for the Brihanmumbai Municipal corporation will be held in 2022, but parties contesting in it start their groundwork indistinguishably as they do for The Vidhan Sabha. Nana Patole, freshly appointed Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president announced, on 16th February, the intentions of Congress on fighting the BMC elections solo. The Congress has been considering this ever since allying with the  Shiv Sena and NCP in MVA.

Under the leadership of Patole, Congress is confident that it can fight all 227 seats alone. The party conducted a meeting on 16th February to discuss the measures to be taken to strengthen its roots in every ward.

The Decision seems to be made after feeling left out in major decisions made by the MVA, Congress expressed disappointment regarding the former. There have been many differences in the past regarding decisions of renaming cities. While Shiv Sena stood for it Congress couldn't see the need for it. Although, the decision of departing from its allies for the BMC elections is a Courageous act for Congress.
