Sanjay Pandey, the newly appointed Mumbai Police Commissioner, has requested citizen input on stopping the practise of traffic cops towing vehicles. Pandey went on to say that this discussion in no way reflects the government's official stance on the matter. "Dear Mumbai residents, your comment has left me speechless. We intend to stop towing vehicles initially. To begin, try it out and then see whether you can stick with it. Please let me know your thoughts "Pandey used his own Twitter account to tweet.

Some individuals responded to his tweet by suggesting that if traffic cops in Mumbai made it illegal to park a car on important roads, half of the illegal parking problems would be solved. Another user requested that the MTP App be replaced with a dedicated Twitter handle for traffic-related concerns, claiming that the MTP App is nearly obsolete.

"Provide incentives for adherence to the law. Discounts and advantages, for example. Free discounts for an extra hour, etc. Assign them at random. As if it were a surprise zone competition. People will be pushed to embrace better habits ", Gayatri, who defined herself as a poet and author, wrote on Twitter.

Pandey responded to her by saying, "Thank you for your interest, but we do not have any such monetized schemes. We can only provide them a pass to a social gathering. We'll have to plan for that as well ". To this, she responded that forming a partnership with the Mumbai municipal government might benefit in the acquisition of parking spaces.

According to a police official, Pandey may have started the conversation since car owners in Mumbai typically have trouble parking their vehicles due to a lack of space. Towing frequently results in confrontations between automobile owners and traffic cops.

In 2019, the local authority in Mumbai began imposing a stiff charge of Rs 10,000 on cars parked within 500 metres of a public parking space to crack down on unlawful parking. Following public outcry, the penalty amount was reduced. According to the official, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been collecting fines of more than Rs 2 lakh each day.
