Mumbai: Water levels in lakes increase than last year
The water level in seven lakes serving Mumbai’s supply-demand has increased as compared to last year due to the ceaseless heavy rain over the past few days in the city. Last year in August 2020, a stock of 4.5 lakh million liters of water had caused a supply cut of 20 percent, but this year the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) very early has notified that the water supply in the city will not be affected in August.

All the lakes in the city have a combined stock of more than 9.37 lakh million liters of water as of now. As claimed by the forecast of the India Meteorological Department there will be a break in the monsoon rain for the next few days. All the lakes in the city have received good rain.

In July last year, the monsoon rain took a long gap due to which the overall stock in the seven lakes came down to 50 percent till the end of August. From August 5, the city had to face a water cut of 20 percent. The lakes had less than 18 percent of water stock this year in mid-July, but thereafter rains started to commence and the situation turned for good from July 21. Even after hardly having any rain on Sunday the level of the lakes was high because of the percolation effect.
