Assistant Inspector Sachin Vaze, who was suspended after a month in NIA custody, has been remanded in judicial custody till April 23.  The court directed the jail authorities to take necessary security measures.  As a police officer he investigated several cases.

Defendant was placed in custody.  During the hearing, the prosecution objected to Weiss's letter being leaked and circulated after it was given to lawyers.  The prosecution said it was serious.  Weiss submitted a four-page letter on Wednesday alleging that two ministers had been ordered to extort money.  The letter was not accepted by the court, which said it would follow proper procedures.

The court repeated this on Friday.  It states that he has the right to make submissions but must follow the procedures under the Code of Criminal Procedure and must comply with the relevant confessions and other provisions.  Don't let this happen next time.  You must adopt a procedure.  You have every right ... but follow the procedures, “the court said.  Defendant's attorney said he did not know and was surprised. The prosecution told the court that it had made it clear in its April 8 medical report that it no longer needed intervention.  The defence had earlier asked Weiss to perform an angiography.

Meanwhile, the court allowed the CBI's application seeking certain documents in the cases being investigated against Weiss and his co-accused.  Earlier this week, the CBI had registered a preliminary inquiry into the Bombay High Court order to probe allegations levelled by former police commissioner Param Bir Singh against former state home minister Anil Deshmukh.  Vaze was arrested by the NIA on March 13 in connection with an investigation into the discovery of explosives in an SUV parked near businessman Mukesh Ambani's South Mumbai residence on February 25.
