Storm water drain nets seem to disappear at an alarming rate from the BMC’s G-North ward. Around 250 nets were stolen last year. In particular, this theft has occurred on a large scale from Senapati Bapat Marg, Canossa High School, L J Road and Mori Road.

The BMC installs new nets everytime such theft occurs , only to have them stolen again. Local corporator Manish Chavan is now asking if there is any conspiracy behind this?

Nets are installed at the corner of pavements and roads in order to facilitate the drainage of rain water, with the cost of a single net being Rs 5,000 and a double net costs Rs 8,000, said deputy chief engineer of storm water drains, S G Sheikh.
