Mumbai: Vaccination Capacity stands nowhere Compared to BMC Ambition
Even after the civic body that is the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) started the walk-in registration with the vision of vaccinating over 90 lakh citizens who are above the age of 18 years, only 15 percent of the whole population have been vaccinated till date. It was being estimated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) that by September or October 70 to 80 percent of this population will fully get vaccinated to stay protected with the third wave of Covid 19. But the issue of unavailability of vaccines seems to have dashed those hopes.

The population who has been vaccinated with the first dose is more than 54 percent. The city is yet to be opened up fully and for that to happen it becomes very necessary to have a high number of fully vaccinated people. Though vaccination number is not the only factor in opening up the city, it would only help the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to come up with a decision faster.

“The first dose of vaccination has been completed for 54 percent of the eligible population and we really hope that their immunity has started to kick in. and we look forward to those who have completed their 84 days after the first dose in large numbers in the centres,” stated Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani.

“If the curbs are lifted the third wave may soon hit as lifting will result in crowds and large gatherings. Vaccination was the key which is going to play an important role in stopping this coming third wave but as the supply has been limited which has led to slower vaccination of the citizens,” another Senior Civic Official added.
