Finally, Maharashtra's Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray, stepped in to address the current electricity problem and the return of load shedding after a 12-year hiatus. Thackeray requested the State Energy Department to target 8,000 megawatts of power generation from MahaGenco's thermal power facilities in order to satisfy increased demand during the first review meeting since the state's power crisis began.

Due to a lack of adequate coal supply, MahaGenco's thermal power plants, which have an installed capacity of 9,330 MW, can only generate between 6,200 and 7,200 MW at the moment. MahaGenco was receiving 1,24,497 to 1,26,000 metric tonnes of coal per day, compared to its daily coal requirement of 1,38,710 metric tonnes. Thackeray instructed the administration to establish short and long-term measures to make Maharashtra self-sufficient in the electrical industry at the meeting, which was also attended by energy minister Nitin Raut.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, the CM said it was excellent that Maharashtra had not experienced load shedding in the previous five days. However, he requested that the energy department conduct extensive planning for power generation, coal reserves, imported coal, and power purchases in the future to ensure a similar occurrence. The CM will conduct a weekly review of the state's electricity sector and the efforts taken to ensure that the state's power supply remains stable.

Because the Centre has allowed the import of 10% by states, the CM has directed the energy department to focus on coal storage in light of the forthcoming monsoon. He also directed MahaGenco to pursue adequate and high-quality coal from the Centre on a regular basis. The Chief Minister said he would personally speak to the Union Petroleum Minister about the availability of gas for electricity generation at MahaGenco's gas-based plant at Uran, Raigad district.

Meanwhile, Raut stated that the state energy department and MahaVitaran's micro-level planning efforts have given great results, as no load shedding has occurred in the state in the recent five days. The state had a 2,500 MW power shortage due to the summer and insufficient coal supplies, but it was met.
