The big fire that overtook a plant in Igatpuri in Maharashtra's Nashik district on Sunday was followed by a deafening explosion that left at least two people dead and 14 more injured, according to officials. Around 11.30 A.M., when residents were waking up following the New Year celebrations, there was reported to have been an explosion and fire at the Jindal Polyfilms Company's plant in Gonde village, apparently caused by a boiler.

Local witnesses stated that although there were at least 250 employees on the grounds, most of them were able to flee and find safety. At least 14 injured people were saved by firefighting crews, and two workers' remains were also found. According to a Medical Officer, the condition of at least four of the injured is considered critical. Gangatharan D., the Collector for Nashik, and Sachin Patil, the Superintendent of Police for rural areas, assessed the situation.

Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister, and Dada Bhuse, the Rural Development Minister and Nashik District's Guardian Minister, arrived at the scene of the tragedy.
Shinde stated that the government would cover nearly all of the injured people's medical costs in addition to awarding each family of the two deceased Rs 5 lakh in compensation. Later, the CM and Bhuse visited the local hospital where the injured were being treated and spoke with them, along with other officials. Even while the fire raged in the factory complex, Union Minister of State for Health Dr. Bharat Pawar was keeping an eye on the situation from New Delhi.
