The illegal hawkers must be removed from the "B" ward area, for which the
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has placed an advertisement. The civic organisation recently published an advertisement requesting eight workers to help remove illegal hawkers from the area from private labour providers and NGOs. B ward includes the vicinity of Masjid Bundar, Bhendi Bazar and P. Demollo Road.
BMC is prepared to pay each employee Rs. 680 per day. BMC urged private manpower supply companies to contact them armed with the appropriate paperwork. The civic organisation has made it clear that companies whose names have already been added to a blacklist should not submit quotes. The bid-winning company should not provide minor workers, according to BMC's notification. A 5% security deposit should be kept by prospective bidders with BMC, it added.
It has also been stated that the supplier company will be subject to a daily fine of Rs. 200 if employees are hired and discovered inside during working hours. These volunteers will be used to remove illegal encroachments and unauthorised shops, according to a B ward official. The official stated, "The BMC will provide logistics, but we lack manpower so we are outsourcing people from NGOs."
"Two shifts will be worked by these employees. As a small ward with a tight budget, we have decided to hire eight people "the representative added. All of the Assistant Municipal Commissioners officers were instructed by a senior officer to visit their respective areas last week to assess the footpath's condition.
Additionally, he reviewed the A and B wards. The officer claimed in a media interview that B Road's footpaths and roads are more congested and narrower than those in A Ward, which includes Colaba and the Cuff-Parade area. A BMC official had also stated that he wanted to set up a system so that residents could file complaints if the footpaths were obstructed, missing, or damaged.
