BMC issued Rs. 16.45 Crore Tender to clear the Hyacinths from Powai Lake
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in a step to reduce the surge of liquid waste in Powai Lake has floated a tender of Rs 16.45 crore to clean the hyacinths from the lake. “As the tender now has been floated so the cleaning activity will not take more than six months,” said Ajay Rathod, Chief Engineer of Hydraulics Department.

A tender in the same regard was carried by the authorities four years ago, the goal of the authority is to obstruct sewer water entry, and also it has managed to hold a significant amount of it. Aerators have also been fixed to fill oxygen in the lake by the body.
These water bodies are the homes of water hyacinths as they possess high sewage water. The plant then moves on to taking over the entire top of the body making it ardors for sunrays to penetrate to aquatic life. That is the reason why the oxygen minimizes and causes the death of the marine life, added Rathod.

As of now, 25 percent of Powai lake is surrounded by water hyacinths which need to be brought down to 10 percent. The substances and the hyacinths will be taken out with the help of an amphibious machine or there will be a need for employing a harvester. Then at the end, it will be discharged at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) site.
