Although the third COVID-19 wave's curve has nearly flattened, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope indicated on Sunday that the decision on the face mask ban will be carefully considered. Tope's remarks came a day after Maharashtra confirmed 893 COVID-19 cases and eight deaths as a result of the virus.
According to Tope, Maharashtra saw 48,000 cases per day during the third wave's height. In comparison to the peak, the number of new cases is now less than ten percent. Currently, there are roughly 9,000 active cases. Tope commented on the state government's decision to ease COVID-19 rules even more, including eliminating the face mask requirement "Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has repeatedly stated that the COVID pandemic is not over.
As a result, the choice on mask liberty will be made after much thought". Tope's announcement came only days before the state cabinet meeting on Wednesday and the start of the state legislature's three-week budget session. Aaditya Thackeray, the State's Tourism Minister, said on Saturday that all restrictions will be lifted soon. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, on the other hand, stated that masks are still required till the administration makes a decision.
Siddharth Shirole, a BJP MP from Pune's Shivajinagar, encouraged Maharashtra's government to take a "positive" move by lifting the COVID-19 limitations and allowing the city to resume its "march towards normalcy." Shirole took to Twitter to say: "ALL RESTRICTIONS MUST BE REMOVED. In the #Pune COVID Review meeting, convened by Hon. Dy. CM @AjitPawarSpeaks Ji, I urged the government to lift all Covid restrictions (barring masks and requiring vaccinations at institutions) and take aggressive steps to return #Pune to normalcy."
