The BMC still failed to provide students with educational kits on time even after 15 years of the scheme. The contractors now have until July 31 to deliver the remaining kits, according to a deadline set by the company's education department. However, the students will have to wait until next month to receive their shoes and socks.
The BMC started giving students 27 educational items in an effort to encourage more students to enroll in civic-run schools. On the first day of school, all of these supplies should be delivered to the students. However, since the program's inception in 2007, the distribution process has been delayed. On June 13 of this year, all civic-run schools reopened, but most of the articles were delayed.
"We've given the contractors notices, and we've asked them to finish the distribution by July 31. The contractors will be fined for the delay when paying the bills, per the rule. Shoes will be distributed by the end of the month, but all kits will be distributed by August 10, according to BMC education officer Rajesh Kankal.
2.98 lakh students are enrolled in 1,150 civic-run schools at the moment. The BMC has set aside Rs 7 crore for educational supplies like books, tiffin boxes, raincoats, umbrellas, water bottles, shoes, and socks, among other things. The civic organisation decided to alter the uniform this year. Additionally, the BMC gave each student in Classes 8 through 10 Rs 270 so they could purchase their umbrellas.
The students have still not received educational kits despite the fact that the schools resumed operations one and a half months ago. It is very upsetting that they must be purchased annually, so why is it always put off? This demonstrates the careless attitude of local officials. Ravi Raja, a former opposition leader in the
BMC, questioned: "Why are the contractors not on a blacklist?
