Raju Shetti, the leader of the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, asked Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Friday not to accept his name for appointment to the state Legislative Council from the governor's quota if it appears among the MVA government-recommended nominees.

Shetti met with Koshyari at the Raj Bhavan here and made the plea in the wake of the Sanghatana breaking ties with the government Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on Tuesday over a variety of agriculture issues. After the meeting, he told reporters that it would not be "morally proper" for him to criticise the MVA's policies on the one hand while accepting the alliance's  recommendation for Legislative Council membership on the other.

I don't believe it is morally correct to criticise various government programmes on the one hand while accepting the Council membership recommended by the government on the other. As a result, I've asked the governor to disregard my name if it appears on the list. The MVA government had sent Koshyari a list of 12 people from his quota who will be selected for the State Legislative Council in November 2020. However, the governor has yet to make a decision. The Council has 78 members in total.
