In a recent statement given by the senior official of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) he declared that “The situation of Covid-19 in the city of Mumbai is in control as the daily cases that have been reported in the city are less than 1500.”
A total of 6,000 to 7,000 tests are being conducted on daily basis with all the citizens taking safety precautions and following all the required protocols, stated the Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani. As soon as the second wave hit the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) started concentrating on the slum areas by tracing the contacts which were at high risk and then sending them to quarantine centres.
And after the tests, if they were tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus, they were kept at isolation facilities, he further stated. Surveys took place in the slum areas by the
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) by visiting each house to trace the symptomatic patients. From setting up of fever clinics and X-ray vans to providing all the medical equipment to the local doctors and keeping a check on the regular sanitization in the common toilets, everything was being done, he added.
He further stated that now the focus of the authority will be on the residential buildings and housing societies to inform them about hygiene, cleanliness, social distancing, how important it is to wear a mask, and sanitization of common areas like lifts, staircases, lobbies, and toilets. Soon SOP’s will be generated for housing societies to ensure they do not permit anyone without wearing a mask. Arrangement of thermal screening and hand sanitizers at the entrance of housing societies will be made.
Kakani also stated that this year also the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi has been asked to celebrate simply and low-key and focus on social service. The authority has also come up with an idea of 'one ward-one Ganpati' and has asked the local authorities to take a call on it, he said.
