Ward delimitation for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections has been cancelled by the Maharashtra Government. A new ward delimitation process will be carried out under the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act and the Maharashtra Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats, and Industrial Townships Act 2022, which were recently approved in the state legislature, according to an order issued on March 11.

Following the state government's approval, the BMC created draught borders to construct nine new wards, bringing the total number of wards in the city from 227 to 236. In February, the civic council asked the public for comments and complaints on ward delimitation and received 812 responses. Last week, the Maharashtra Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats, and Industrial Townships Act, as well as the Maharashtra Village Panchayats and Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis Act, were amended.
