The
Congress High Command is dissatisfied with the seven-party legislators who crossed-voted in the state council election, as well as the absence of 11 legislators, including former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, during the trust vote moved by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and the decision made by the Maha Vikas Aghadi government at its last cabinet meeting to rename Aurangabad Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad Dharashiv.
The high command will soon serve notices on 11 legislators seeking explanations for their absence, as well as separate notices on 7 legislators who cross-voted, resulting in the defeat of the party's first candidate, Chandrakant Handore, in the state council election on June 20.
Former minister Naseem Khan met former party president Rahul Gandhi, who was accompanied by Handore and discussed a variety of issues, including Handore's defeat. "A senior Congress leader Chandrakant Handore was the party's first candidate, receiving 29 votes against the quota of 26 votes," he told the Free Press Journal. However, he received 22 votes, indicating that seven legislators used cross-voting. As a result, we demanded an investigation and action against the concerned legislators."
Khan's demand came after G-23 member and former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan claimed that seven-party legislators engaged in cross-voting and that the party should take action against them. Furthermore, the party's high command was dissatisfied with how senior ministers in the MVA government-supported renaming Aurangabad Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad Dharashiv. According to a senior party leader, Congress ministers should have briefed the high command and sought formal approval before supporting the renaming approved at the last cabinet meeting.
Meanwhile, state party chief Nana Patole met with the party's high command on Thursday to discuss the party's current situation following the fall of the MVA government. They also discussed Handore's defeat due to cross-voting by party legislators, according to Khan, adding that they have demanded action against them.
