The BMC plans to modernise its dispensaries this month; the Hindu hridayasamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Health Centres will be operational from June. The Municipal Government is currently planning to renovate 10 of the 100 polyclinics and dispensaries with in-house diagnostic centres, telemedicine capabilities, and visits by super experts from large hospitals. The other 90 will begin after trial and error tests.

Officials with the city stated they have received the statement of interest, and the upgrading will begin next week. The BMC currently has 189 dispensaries. They fail to offer critical treatment to inhabitants because to a shortage of manpower and infrastructure,  resulting in crowding at the four major civic-run hospitals – KEM, Sion, Nair, and Cooper.

Health campaigners have applauded the decision. "The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have made sure that there are positive measures by considering the use of existing dispensaries," an activist said, "which will be a blessing for many citizens who are unable to reach the hospital within a set period."
