To increase openness in road building and maintenance, the
BMC has chosen to post all road-related information on its official website. BMC is often criticized for poor road conditions and potholes. The BMC administration also works hard to offer inhabitants smooth and long-lasting roads. Mumbai has around 2000 kilometres of road. BMC had made the choice to concrete all of the roads a few years previously. Currently, half of Mumbai's roadways have been converted from asphalt to concrete.
Thousands of metric tonnes of cold mix mixture have been sent to all 24 administrative wards of the BMC this year to patch potholes caused by the monsoon. As a result, in order to enlighten residents, the BMC has decided to consolidate and post all relevant information on its website.
According to Vishal Thombre, Executive Engineer of the Road Department, "All of the information will be available on our dashboard. When residents click on the road's name, the entire history of that route is displayed on the screen. For example, how old the road was when it was originally built, whether it is made of concrete or asphalt, how many manholes are on the road, when the road was last fixed, and the durability of the road after repair. The screen will display all of the information."
Ullhas Mahale, Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Infrastructure), told FPJ, "The construction is now under process. We are in the process of preparing a proposal, and the tendering work will be completed after the monsoon has passed. We will present all road-related information on the dashboard, but the procedure will be extensive and time-consuming. Because we must first collect and compile road information. Following that, it will be posted to the MCGM website. It will take at least two years to finish the full procedure."
