The
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received 812 public suggestions and objections regarding the draught electoral ward demarcation prepared in response to the State Election Commission's directives (SEC). The civic body had invited suggestions and objections from the public on February 1 after receiving approval from the SEC. According to the SEC's schedule, the deadline for submitting ideas and objections was February 14th.
"BMC ward level officers would visit and examine ideas and objections in their respective areas, and will be ready to assist the committee during the hearing," BMC Additional Commissioner Suresh Kakani said. "The majority of the ideas and concerns concern ward boundaries, ward descriptions, and population. Political figures, including corporators, former corporators, and political party workers, sent between 400 and 450 ideas and objections in their capacity" Kakani remarked.
On February 22, a hearing on ideas and objections will begin and end on February 26. On March 2nd, the SEC will receive the final report. "All complaints will be evaluated based on three factors: geographical closeness, the population of the ward, and inconvenience to the broader public," Kakani stated.
The SEC has formed a committee to hear comments and objections and to present a report with recommendations to the SEC on March 2nd. The committee includes the additional chief secretary for finance, the Konkan Divisional Commissioner, two Mumbai collectors, and the Municipal Commissioner.
