BMC: Textile museum phase 1 work is likely to be concluded by February next year
Ahead of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections 2022, the civic body on Tuesday stated that the work of creating a textile museum at the decrepit United Mills Compound 2 and 3 to highlight the city’s erstwhile mill culture of which the work on phase one will be completed by February next year. 
 
The museum covers a total land of 16.3 acres, it will be showcasing the city’s textile legacy. As stated, the work for phase one will be completed by February next year however it doesn’t depict actual displays of the museum although it includes a tourist attraction of a three-dimensional multimedia water fountain, in the mill’s premises itself. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is likely to open this place for people’s visits after it is completed in February next year. 
 
“We once had this opinion that we should open the museum for people to visit once it is built completely, but this is going to take not less than 3 years, so we believe that after the completion of phase one in February next year we will open the place for people so they could have a look. The ticket and pricing for entry have not been decided yet,” stated Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) senior official from the heritage department. 
 
Side by side the work of phase two will also keep going which includes the creation of museum displays, restoration of the entire building, fire safety and much more. This phase two work is speculated to take three more years, after which Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will start obtaining items for museum displays. 
 
 
The museum will also have a fountain which will cost a total of 19 crores to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), with that an addition of 3 crores is also to be kept aside for operation and maintenance purposes.
