Due to concerns over the Delta Plus variant as well as the fact that there is a likelihood of a huge third wave surge, the spooked Maharashtra government has decided not to lift curbs after the state reported over twenty cases of delta plus variant and first death due to the mutated virus. Tightening the existing curbs, the state government has decided instead of a five-level unlock there will be now uniform three-level restrictions in all over districts. Malls, theaters, and multiplexes will remain closed while restaurants will be allowed to operate at fifty percent capacity till four pm, post that only take away and parcel services will be allowed.
Maharashtra now has the maximum number of Delta Plus cases with twenty-one cases detected so far. Of these, nine are from Ratnagiri, seven from Jalgaon, two from Mumbai, and one each from Palghar and Sindhudurg. Now, the delta plus variant is said to be quite dangerous, yesterday a death took in Maharashtra, of 80-year-old women who are detected with a Delta Plus variant. By large cases is dipping we are looking at Delta variant as a virus variant of concern now.
Certainly, restrictions are not being eased out, vaccination is being promoted and secondly, apart from this Maharashtra government has also decided to go in for upgrading the medical infrastructure. Some hospitals need to be upgraded for the third wave. It is the simple reason that the Maharashtra government believes that there will be more than fifty lack cases in the third wave out of that at least 25 lack people will depend on the government infrastructure. Which is the reason why the entire up-gradation is extremely important.
“It is very important for users to gather more information on the symptoms of Delta Plus variant, of these patients, to see if they have different symptoms from Delta variants. When the report of genome sequencing comes to us, we will be able to know about these things” said Rahul Pandit, from the COVID-19 task force.
The state produces 1300 MT oxygen daily, the state is trying to increase the capacity to 3000 MT anticipating the third wave. Maharashtra’s weekly positivity rate is 5.24% while districts that have the delta plus variant have the highest weekly positivity rate at 11.9. Mumbai which has 2 Delta plus variants has a weekly positivity rate of 3.79%.
