On Tuesday, December 14, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal issued an order to reopen schools in Mumbai for grades 1 through 7 on Wednesday, December 15. Schools in Maharashtra’s various districts have already resumed classes as of December 1st, with roughly 50-60% of kids attending on the first day of school. According to official data provided by the Mumbai Education Department, there are over 2000 schools in Mumbai, of which nearly 1900 will reopen on December 15.

For classes 5th through 7th, the Department has received a 40% assurance from parents that their child would be attending school. According to the BMC Education Department's recent supplementary instructions, which were announced on December 12, all schools with grades 1 through 7 must be open from Monday through Saturday, except holidays and week offs.

The guidelines apply to all principals of municipally affiliated primary and secondary schools of all mediums of instruction, as well as all private granted and non-granted primary and secondary schools of all managements and mediums within the boundaries of the BMC. There were also further requirements, which said, "Parents must determine whether or not to send their children/wards to school. Before permitting pupils to attend the school, a consent letter from their parents is required." "Mumbai's schools are preparing to reopen. Approximately 40 schools have been turned into covid/vaccination centres. Students from that school will be relocated to neighbouring ward schools "According to a Mumbai Education Department official.

Many private schools in Mumbai have announced that they will reopen in stages. "We have decided not to restart physical classes for grades 1-7 at this time due to the growing threat of Omicron. We have chosen to postpone the reopening of the schools due to the delicate problem of student, faculty, coordinator, and non-teaching staff safety. Following rules is challenging for younger children. Parents have also expressed alarm over the unexpected increase in Omicron cases in Maharashtra. We'll keep an eye on the situation for a time and then consider resuming offline courses for lower grades if necessary "Orchids - The International School, Vashi, Mumbai, Principal Ms. Pooja Anjanikar.
