Shiv Sena candidate Anil Patankar won the by-election in ward no. 147 in Ghatla village, Chembur. With the BMC election just a year away this win could prove significant for in the forthcoming elections.

The Sena candidate defeated congress candidate Rajendra Nagarale by a handsome margin of 6,627 votes. The by-election, which was held on January 10, was necessitated because of the resignation of Mr Patankar, who was earlier a Congress corporator and had quit congress in August,2015 to join the Shiv Sena.

But, he faced a tough challenge due to a rebellion of Nagesh Tawate, a former Shakhapramukh, who contested as an independent. Mr Patankar received 11,517 votes, Mr Nagarale received 4,317 votes whereas Mr Tawate could poll only 4317 votes.
