In a money laundering case involving alleged anomalies during the development of a Patra Chawl scandal, a Mumbai court has extended Sanjay Raut's judicial custody until September 19. On August 1, police detained the Rajya Sabha MP. In the Goregaon Redevelopment Project that never materialized, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) claimed that Raut received a portion of the proceeds of the crime.

Pravin Raut, the frontman for MP Sanjay Raut in the case, is accused of transferring some money to Sanjay Raut and his wife from the Rs. 112 crores that he received as a result of the fraud. Pravin Raut is also one of the directors of the company (Guruashish Constructions Pvt Ltd.), which was in charge of the redevelopment project.

Sanjay Raut was detained by the ED for questioning up to August 8 at which point the agency asked the court to place him in judicial custody. It had informed the court that, if released, he is powerful and might tamper with the evidence.
