SERO Surveys to be conducted in selected districts: Health Minister Rajesh Tope

As Maharashtra is gearing up for the third wave, the decision to organize SERO Surveys has been made by Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Wednesday in selected districts owing to the need. The Minister stated that the main focus would be on vaccination in July.
“A round of discussion on SERO Surveys will soon be conducted with the local authorities without compromising on vaccination even if a certain section population is found to possess Covid-19 antibodies. The government’s main focus is to reach 70% vaccination at the earliest and the State can vaccinate 10 lakh people a day. The Centre will need to provide us with the necessary number of vaccines,” said Tope.
Recently Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation conducted SERO Survey amongst the pediatric population on the background of imminent danger of the third wave to the kids. The survey indicates that more than 50% of the pediatric population possesses antibodies. And the age group of 10-14 years is the sub-age group having the highest SERO positivity at 53.43.
“We decided to conduct SERO survey of the kids during the second wave choosing the period of 1st of April to 15th of June and during this period we collected almost 2200 samples across Mumbai and the results we got were encouraging. In more than 51% kid’s antibodies were developed which means that they won’t be susceptible to the viral attack, even if the attack is there it would be very mild.”
At this point, the only concern of the government is to ensure that even if the third wave comes then it doesn’t impact and cause any kind of damage to especially the pediatric population. Therefore, keeping those theories in mind the BMC did conduct this SERO Survey report which indicates that the SERO positivity amongst the pediatric population has increased significantly as compared to the last SERO Survey report.
This comes as a relief for several parents, but what authorities and experts keep on stressing is that one should not let their guards down. Covid appropriate behaviour is a must and needs to be followed and in case of any eventuality or any sort of danger to the children the government has ramped up the infrastructure and is in a constant process of doing so.
