Soon allegations started to come up of possible manipulation and mischief while forming the ward boundaries for the approaching Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2022, the State Election Commission (SEC) declared that the state ward boundaries will soon be published, and before the approval, proper suggestions and objections will be heard too. Assuring the date, the State Elections Commission (SEC) stated that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2022 will be conducted in February.
While declaring, UPS Madan the State Election Commissioner (SEC) stated that before the draft is to be approved it will be put in front of the public to hear suggestions or objections regards this. “The draft which has been submitted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is not final yet. The committee which has been formed to take suggestions and objections will look into this matter and soon after they receive any kind of suggestion or objection they will recommend and then the only final decision onward boundaries will be made,” stated State Election Commissioner (SEC) UPS Madan.
Further, Madan added that not only people but the political parties too will be given a chance to raise their objections and recommendations. The committee which has been set up will examine all the suggestions and objections and then they will be giving recommendations to the State Elections Commission (SEC) after which the draft will be ready.
This came soon after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) stating that there was manipulation in the draft ward boundaries that has been submitted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to the State Elections Commission (SEC). The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) further asked for a forensic audit of the draft which was sent to the State Elections Commission (SEC), and further alleged that those names were taken out from the voter's list in some wards which are dominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
