Sanjay Raut, a Shiv Sena MP, stated on Monday that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made it clear that BJP's Devendra Fadnavis will become Maharashtra's Chief Minister after the 2019 state elections are "far from reality." While speaking to media in Delhi, Raut said that the BJP "ditched" the Shiv Sena in 2014 in exchange for a larger share of power. "Since you wanted to become a Chief Minister, you betrayed the BJP and became CM by compromising on Hindutva for power," Shah remarked of Thackeray and the Shiv Sena.

Raut reacted to it by saying, "The remarks are far from accurate. We're attempting to figure out what's going on. They are fooling the country by questioning us (the Shiv Sena), our government, and our Hindutva, but the people are not ready to trust them. This failure can be seen in state (BJP) leaders." The Shiv Sena has not abandoned Hindutva and will never do so, according to the Rajya Sabha member. The leader for the Shiv Sena further stated that his party will never abandon Hindutva.

Following a split with the BJP over the job of Chief Minister in the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Uddhav Thackeray-led party teamed up with the NCP and Congress to establish a government in the state. During his visit to Pune on Sunday, Shah stated that he and Prime Minister Modi had made it plain that Fadnavis would be the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra following the 2019 elections.
