Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Tuesday made a significant political statement, confirming that Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) are expected to jointly contest the upcoming local body elections in Maharashtra.

Speaking to media personnel in New Delhi, Rajya Sabha MP Raut responded positively when asked whether the two parties were coming together electorally. “Surely,” he remarked confidently, reinforcing speculation that had been swirling for months.

The much-talked-about reunion of cousins Uddhav and Raj Thackeray took place in July, as they joined forces to oppose the Maharashtra government’s new education policy mandating a three-language formula for students from Classes 1 to 5. They also raised strong objections to what they termed as the forced imposition of Hindi. Following the government’s rollback of this policy, both leaders organized a joint 'victory' event, showcasing their political synergy.

Raut further stated that both Thackeray cousins will sit together and deliberate on their electoral strategy. He noted that discussions at the leadership level are already in motion and that workers from both Sena (UBT) and MNS are showing enthusiastic support for a joint front.

He added that the cadre from both parties believes this alliance will strengthen their chances significantly, especially in crucial municipal corporations such as Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Kalyan-Dombivli. These urban centres, particularly Mumbai—long regarded as the Sena’s stronghold—are considered key battlegrounds in the upcoming polls.

It is worth noting that Raj Thackeray broke away from the unified Shiv Sena in 2005 due to internal disagreements and established the MNS. Since then, both cousins have led their respective factions independently, often fielding candidates against each other in various elections.

This potential collaboration between the two estranged Thackerays is being closely watched, as it could reshape the political dynamics in several local bodies across Maharashtra. With the elections drawing closer, this evolving alliance might prove to be a game-changer in urban political landscapes, especially if their unity translates into consolidated voter support on the ground.
