RTI discloses BMC spent Rs 21,000 crore in two decades on potholes in Mumbai
A BJP MLA Ameet Satam had filed a Right to Information (RTI) application after which the data has been released stating that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has spent more than Rs 21,000 crore on the repair, maintenance, and construction of new roads over the decade. After going through a report taken out by the Times of India the BJP MLA from Andheri filed a plea asking a response on the expense suffered for the repairing work being done to fix the potholes in Mumbai. Satam stated the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in its road department had spent more than Rs 21,000 crore from 1997.

“The city of Mumbai faces major problems of bad roads, and still their condition has not been changed for decades. And the reason for this is the lack of coordination between multiple utility agencies and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). That’s the reason when a road is made by the BMC, the very next day it is dug for laying of cables,” stated Satam.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was trolled for claiming that eleven potholes remain in the city stating that every monsoon Mumbaikars are forced to constantly Tweet pictures of potholes tagging the BMC so that they pay attention towards it even when it is visible. After the appeal made by the Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut to the rich for donation for relief work in the city the BJP MLA taking a jibe said “To build filled Road works for Mumbaikars in more than 20 years the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has spent Rs.21,000 according to the information received from RTI! Will the rich donate for Maharashtra?”
