Maharashtra Resident Doctors announced an Indefinite strike starting from Friday
In an unprecedented move, Resident Doctors in Maharashtra have declared an indefinite strike starting from Friday. The doctors have put forth several demands in front of the ministry. According to the Maharashtra State Association of Resident Doctors (MARD), the strike will come into effect from 11 am Friday and will continue indefinitely until all the demands are fulfilled.

Although OPD's will remain unfunctional the association has however claimed that critical and emergency medical services will not be hampered. According to a member of MARD, the association was called by the higher officials for a meeting at 11:30 am on Friday to deliberate on the matter. But there have been no written assurances yet.

One of their key demands is that their academic fees should be waived off. Other demands include the betterment of the hostel conditions all over the state and that there should not be any TDS deduction from the salaries of the resident doctors of the BMC hospitals. Additionally, the government hospitals should receive the pending COVID incentives.

Dnyaneshwar Dhobale Patil, who is the president of MARD, said that Thursday's meeting between MARD and the Director of Medical Education was inconclusive. Dr. Patil further added "We have been pressing these issues for the last 5 months. But they have all gone to the deaf ear and no action has been taken. We did not even receive a written assurance from the government of Maharashtra.

Therefore, we have decided to go on a strike from tomorrow. We look forward to tomorrow's meeting with Education Minister Amit Deshmukh and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar at 11.30 am. We will resume our services once we get a positive response, else the strike will continue.
