Slams Shiv Sena to BJP led Central Government: Reducing VAT on fuel prices a poll strategy

Ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2022, again an attack from the Shiv Sena government in the state of Maharashtra has come criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central government and the states ruled by them after it reduced taxes on petrol and diesel alleging it as an election strategy and stated that people of the country are aware of such jumlas.

“When the prices of petrol were 117 per barrel, for India it was available for 74, in today’s date per barrel price amounts to 84 and we get it at 110 per litre. The price of petrol in the international market is very low, as per those prices, the retail price should be set up. First, the excise duty should be reduced then automatically the prices will dropdown. But states where these steps are taken of reducing petrol and diesel price, it is part of their election’s strategy, people today are aware of jumlas,” stated Shiv Sena’s Member of Parliament Arvind Sawant. He further took a jibe at the central government spoke about the transfer of funds which falls under Goods and Service Tax (GST) to the state government.

“If the Goods and Service Tax (GST) money is given to Maharashtra government, better steps can be taken, and it is our money anyways. As per the rules, regulations and laws formed Rs 35,000 to 40,000 crore of Goods and Service Tax (GST) should come from the Central government, first they need to give this sum and then point out at us,” stated Shiv Sena’s Member of Parliament Arvind Sawant.

In three years, the Finance Minister of Wednesday announced its first cut of Rs 5 and Rs 10 in excise duty of petrol and diesel respectively. This cut came after the country noticed an all-time price high. Soon after this decision by the central government, many Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled states too declared a reduction in VAT on Petrol and Diesel in their states.
