On Saturday, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope claimed that the state government had received a letter from the federal government warning them to be on the lookout for Covid instances in several countries. According to Rajesh Tope, the State Health Department wrote a letter to DCs after getting the letter from the federal government, warning them to be cautious and take the required precautions.

"Some countries have reported the biggest number of new Covid cases in the last 24 hours since the pandemic began two years ago." In a letter dated March 17 and sent to Municipal Commissioners and District Collectors, Dr. Pradeep Vyas, Assistant Chief Secretary (Health), wrote: "Some new variety is suspected of fueling infections in Israel and other nations."

Authorities, according to Vyas, must ensure that individuals avoid crowding, adhere to proper masks, and be vigilant for influenza-like infections. He also requested that vaccination programmes be accelerated in the districts. He indicated that the government was keeping a close eye on the increase in cases and would take appropriate action if warranted.

The Maharashtra government issued a directive yesterday to all districts to exercise caution and strictly adhere to the Covid-19 recommendations. Asia is the most significant contributor to the worldwide tally, accounting for over half (48%) of all new cases reported globally in the previous week. It is closely followed by Europe, which accounts for 42 percent of all new infections recorded around the world. Despite having only 0.4 percent of the global population, Australia and New Zealand account for 3% of the cases.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported 171 new COVID-19 cases and three fatalities yesterday, bringing the total number of infections to 78,72,203 and the death toll to 1,43,765, according to a health department official. In total, 77,22,754 persons in the state have recovered from the virus infection, including 394 on Friday.

In Maharashtra, there are now 1,680 active patients. The survival rate is 98.10 percent, while the fatality rate is 1.82 percent. Since the previous evening, 45,201 samples have been tested, bringing the total number of coronavirus testing to 7,88,85,405 so far.
