On the 14th anniversary of the Mumbai terror tragedy, Governor BS Koshyari was accused of disrespecting the martyrs, but the Raj Bhavan responded on Saturday to Mr. Sachin Sawant's claim. After Mr. Sawant posted a video showing the Governor honouring the martyrs with shoes, the Raj Bhavan denied the allegations. In India, it is customary to welcome people without their shoes on. It exists in Maharashtra. The Governor has been disrespecting the culture and great men of Maharashtra, and it would have been better if the Chief Minister had brought up Maharashtra's culture instead," Mr. Sawant had tweeted.

The Raj Bhavan, however, asserted that it was prankish to suggest that the Governor insulted police martyrs. Prior to laying a wreath at the Police Martyrs' Memorial at the CP headquarters in Mumbai earlier today, the Hon. Governor of Maharashtra Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari was clearly informed by a senior police official that it is not required to take off shoes or sandals at such a location. The National War Memorial, which the Honorable Governor recently visited, adheres to the same policy. Therefore, to claim that the Hon. Governor insulted the police martyrs by placing the wreath while wearing sandals is mischievous and wicked. Even the Chief Secretary and other officials were spotted putting wreaths at the Memorial while wearing their shoes, according to a statement from Raj Bhavan.
