Rahul Gandhi Accuses BJP-EC of ‘Vote Theft’, Warns Bihar of Bigger Threats
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the BJP and the Election Commission, alleging that both are working in “partnership” to steal the people’s votes. Addressing a gathering in Nalanda during the third day of his Voter Adhikar Yatra, Gandhi cautioned the people of Bihar that once their right to vote is taken away, their ration cards, land and other entitlements would also be seized.

The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha claimed that the last Bihar Assembly election itself was “stolen” and asserted that the truth would come out sooner or later. “When that truth comes into the open, the officials of the Election Commission should remember that our government will not spare them,” he said, stressing that the youth of Bihar will not allow such “vote theft” to continue.

Gandhi told the crowd that the poor in today’s India are left with only one powerful right—the right to vote. “If that too is taken away, then your ration card, your land, your dignity—everything will be lost,” he said.

The Congress leader accused the Election Commission of directly facilitating “vote chori.” He alleged that a Congress analysis of one Assembly constituency in the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha seat revealed that over one lakh bogus votes had been cast, yet the EC offered no explanation and instead demanded an affidavit from him. “Why should I give an affidavit? It is your data. The people of Bihar will come and demand accountability from you,” Gandhi thundered.

According to Gandhi, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar has already deleted nearly 65 lakh voters. “This is unacceptable. We cannot allow such a massive disenfranchisement,” he said, adding that his yatra is a movement to expose and fight against “vote theft” across Bihar.
The crowds responded to his speeches with slogans like ‘vote chor, gaddi chhor’ (Vote thief, vacate the chair).

Highlighting unemployment as another urgent issue, Gandhi said that India must end its dependence on “Made in China” products and instead boost “Made in India” and “Made in Bihar.” “We must fight unemployment, strengthen local industry, and ensure our youth get dignified jobs,” he said.

Earlier, in Nawada, Gandhi reiterated that the Constitution guarantees the right to vote, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and the Election Commission were all working to snatch this right away. Standing alongside RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and CPI(ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya, he warned, “We will not allow you to steal even one vote in Bihar.”

Gandhi also alleged that BJP-EC collusion had already rigged elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh. “In Maharashtra alone, nearly one crore new voters were mysteriously added between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections,” he claimed.
“This is a systematic theft. Now they are preparing to do the same in Bihar, and that too openly before your eyes. But we will not let them succeed,” Gandhi said. He warned the public, “First your voter ID will be taken away, then your ration card, and finally your land will be handed over to big corporates like Adani and Ambani.”

He emphasized that India belongs to its farmers, workers, small traders, and youth, not to a handful of billionaires. “The wrong policies of GST and demonetisation were only made to benefit the rich few, while ordinary people suffer unemployment and rising prices,” Gandhi argued.
The Voter Adhikar Yatra, he explained, is meant to fight both vote theft and unemployment. He urged people to join the campaign, saying that their future was at stake.

During his speech, Gandhi also invited a local man whose name had been deleted from the voters’ list to narrate his story. The man revealed that although he had even worked as a polling agent in the last election, his name had been struck off in the SIR revision. “This is happening to lakhs of voters across Bihar,” Gandhi said, calling it proof of deliberate manipulation.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav backed Gandhi’s charges, promising that whenever the next Lok Sabha election is held, the alliance will make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister. He too attacked the EC, saying that after votes are stolen, people’s ration cards and pensions would be snatched as well.

Tuesday’s leg of the yatra began from Wazirganj in Gaya, moved through Sheikhpura, and reached Nalanda. A break was scheduled for Wednesday, with the march resuming from Nalanda on Thursday. The route will cover multiple districts, including Lakhisarai, Munger, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnea, Araria, Supaul, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Chhapra, and Ara.

Along the way, Gandhi paid homage to Bihar’s first Chief Minister Krishna Singh in Sheikhpura. The yatra, being carried out in a hybrid mode of walking and vehicle travel, mirrors his earlier Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Manipur to Mumbai.
Gandhi closed his speech by saying, “This fight is not just about elections. It is about protecting democracy, protecting your rights, and protecting the future of India.”
