Despite the fact that COVID 19 immunisation is not required, as the Centre recently argued in the Supreme Court, Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope said the government will urge all eligible individuals in the state to get fully vaccinated. Even if the COVID 19 vaccination is not required, we will encourage individuals to get fully vaccinated," Tope stated. The state's daily immunisation rate has recently slowed, with doses ranging from 3.70 lakhs to 7.50 lakhs administered instead of the usual 9 to 10 lakhs.
Despite Maharashtra being one of the top states in the universal immunisation programme, more than 91 percent have received the first injection and 62 percent have received a second. The state continues to have a high number of COVID 19 cases and also leads the country in Omicron Variant cases.
The minister's remark comes as ten districts' weekly optimism rates have surpassed the state's average of 23.48 percent. In addition, Maharashtra leads all other states with 2759 Omicron Variant instances, with greater cases reported in Pune Municipal Corporation, Mumbai, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Nagpur, Sangli and Pune rural.
Nashik has the highest weekly positivity rate at 38.98%, followed by Pune at 38.54%, Raigad at 30.61% , Akola at 30.22% , Nanded at 27.75% , Wardha at 27.71% , Thane at 27.07% , Nagpur at 25.68% , Sangli at 24.94% and Sindhudurg at 23.56%.
