Soon after CM Uddhav Thackeray led the Maharashtra government expressed the decision to name the forthcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport after Shiv Sena founder late Balasaheb Thackeray, protestors gathered at Cidco Head Office. The protestors repeated that it would be better to name the upcoming airport after wetland birds like flamingos which have also been dislodged from the project site that consisted of wetlands and mangroves.

Maharashtra government in response, through a press conference, stated that Mumbai being the capital of Maharashtra, on that account when a visitor is coming to the state, he is approaching towards the land of Shivaji Bhonsale also referred to as Chatrapati Shivaji. An agitated group of people called for a special rapid screening of the people who attended the protest march. The massive gathering could be a dangerous super spreader of Covid, the Mumbai police had earlier given an alert.

“There was no semblance of social distancing at the protest march on Thursday. We hope that at least the rapid antigen tests are done soon at certain spots so that the virus spread can be curtailed” said B N Kumar of NatConnect Foundation. Amid the tensions going on with the naming of the Navi Mumbai airport in Maharashtra, the Union Minister engaged with a tweet that left netizens in splits online. Many started praising his sense of humour and others joined in the fun with their requests. Puri’s tweet comes at a time when locals have been protesting over the naming of the under-construction airport.
