Protest by Mumbai Congress Over Fuel Price Hike
As the price of fuel touches the sky, the Mumbai unit of Congress party protested on Thursday. A demonstration was presented by the Mumbai Congress President Bhai Jagtap alongside different other Congress workers at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in the city’s Dharavi area.

Congress State President Nana Patole and Minister Sunil Kedar in a statement declared that the protest is against the rise in fuel price and it will go on till July 17. The price of petrol has gone up to 106.59 per litre and diesel too has been lifted to Rs 97.18 per litre in the city of Mumbai.

There has been a continuous rise in the price of petrol and diesel since May 4 and it resulted in paying more than 100 Rs for a litre of petrol. This is happening at a time when the common man is not allowed to travel via local trains. Prices were hiked for the second consecutive day. This is the fifth increase in petrol prices in July, with this the steep price rise has become a political issue.
“When the petrol prices rise, when the diesel price rise it majorly impacts the poor.

The poor are unable to buy gas cylinders because of the huge price rise. In the neighbouring country, petrol is cheaper than in India. We will continue to protest against a fuel price hike for 11 days in Mumbai.” stated Mumbai Congress President Bhai Jagtap.” Amid this the Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan blamed the previous Congress government for the price rise stating “Congress before 2014 left lakhs and crores of rupees worth of debt via oil bonds, so we have to pay the interest and principal amount. That is one of the reasons for the rising oil prices.”
