Praja Report: Congress top performer, 90 percent of Mumbai corporators perform poor

As the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation 2022 elections approach, a revelation comes from the Non-Government Organization (NGO) Praja that around 90 percent of city corporator have not performed up to the mark as per the criteria set by it. The corporators working currently were elected in the year 2017. As per the reports of Praja, there are only two corporators who have scored A grade and everyone else have received C, D, E and F grades in overall performance from the year 2017 to 2021.

The report stated that there is a requirement for major improvements in the performance of the corporators. The performance of the elected representatives was assessed on the grounds of attendance in the civic house and meetings, how many questions were raised, the amount of funds spent on public amenities.

In the current term, the average score of corporators is 55.10%, in the last term it was 58.92%. In April 2017-March 2021-time period, of 220 councillors, 71 councillors got E and F grades, while only two have been graded A. “During the difficult phase of the Covid 19 pandemic, we could see no one working like Shiv Sena did by touching the lives of citizens.

As the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections approach, voters will choose us yet again, and that is the only thing that matters to us,” stated Shiv Sena corporator and group leader in BMC Vishakha Raut. “Congress is the best performer and with this, I don’t need to say anything and I believe that people will choose us and give us certificates in the form of votes,” stated Vinod Mishra, BJP’s party leader in BMC.
