Mumbai: Diesel prices in the national capital have crossed Rs 84 a litter following a hike in fuel prices. Petrol price in Mumbai has gone up to Rs 100 per litter. Petrol price has been hiked by 17 paise per liter and diesel by 29 paise per litter as per the notification of state-owned fuel retailers. Petrol and diesel prices have risen to all-time highs across the country. In Delhi, petrol price was hiked by Rs 93.21 per liter and diesel by Rs 84.07 per liter.

With the latest hike, prices in Mumbai have also reached that level. In Mumbai, a litter of petrol is currently priced at Rs 99.49 and diesel at Rs 91.30 per litter. Fuel prices vary from state to state, depending on local taxes such as VAT and freight rates. Rajasthan imposes the highest value-added tax (VAT) on petrol in the country, followed by Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Over the past 15 days, oil companies have been revising daily petrol and diesel rates based on the average price of benchmark fuel and foreign exchange rates in the international market. This is the 12th price since May 4, when state-owned oil companies ended an 18-day gap in tariff revisions during assembly elections in states like West Bengal. In Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan, petrol and diesel are priced at Rs 104.18 per litter and Rs 96.91 per litter respectively. Petrol price rose by Rs 2.81 per liter and diesel by Rs 3.34 per litter.
