Prithviraj Maske, President of the Sangharsh NGO, submitted a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray requesting that Pedder Road be renamed Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar Road. Maske opened his piece by lamenting the death of famous vocalist Lata Mangeshkar, saying that she would live on in our hearts forever.
The purpose of the proposed name change, according to the letter, is to keep her memories alive in the minds of future generations. "We would like future generations of Indians to remember Lata Mangeshkar when they pass by her apartment in Prabhakunj, Pedder Road. As a result, a request has been made to rename Pedder Road as Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar Road "Read the letter to the Chief of staff.
According to accounts, Pedder Road was named after former Bombay Civil Service Municipal Commissioner Mr. W. G. Pedder (1855-1879). Due to the presence of Gopalrao Deshmukh, the first President of the Indian Medical Association and the first Mayor of Bombay following independence, the area became known as Gopalrao Deshmukh Marg.
Lata Mangeshkar, who was 92 years old, died on February 6th. She died of multi-organ failure after more than 28 days in the hospital, according to Dr. Pratit Samdani, who was treating her at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital. Her body remains were taken to her Peddar road residence before her funeral, and the last rites were performed at Shivaji park with state honours, and the state declared a public holiday in her honour and grief a day later. For two days, even the national flag was flown.
