A recent decision by the Maharashtra cabinet, to redevelop the Gurgaon’s Siddharth Nagar also known as ‘Patra Chawl’ has been stuck for close to a decade. The state cabinet also cleared that, it will allow the MHADA to sell the flats at market rates. This is to authorize MHADA to recuperate the cost it will experience to conduct out the redevelopment for the existing tenants. This advancement by the state of Maharashtra is declared to lay out major reassurance to 672 residents of Mumbai.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has pointed to the completion of the redevelopment work in a time-bound manner. In a statement, Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad stated “The state cabinet today has approved the redevelopment of Siddharth Nagar which has been stalled since 2008. More than 672 residents will get homes in the next two years. I have got this opportunity to serve the poor. It is very important to ensure that they go to their homes as soon as possible and I will personally look into the project”

Satisfactory, economical accommodation resumes being Mumbai’s most critical problem. MHADA has barely been efficacious. It has taken an eternity for the state government to come up with a conclusion on the Patra Chawl issue, and residents will have to hold up for another two years for their homes in redeveloped buildings. Which a whole generation spent waiting.

“The MHADA layout is spread over 47 acres and only a few acres have been used to construct three buildings for Ekta Housing Society residents and the MHADA lottery winners. The original contractor Guruashish had fraudulently sold pieces of land to other developers. Some of these have been developed. We shall ensure these residents get their flats, but we shall ensure none of the builders to whom the original builder sold the land gets any benefits” Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad stated. If the developer wants to take over the flat, the developer would need to pay a 10% premium or the market value, which is low.
