On September 21, 2022, the Bombay High Court will hear the matter involving "Meadows," the marketable portion of Patra Chawl's reconstruction. Due to Justice Riyaz Chagla's bench dissolving for the day on Monday, August 29, the matter was not scheduled for hearing, according to a Meadows Welfare Association member.
The Meadows housing project has attracted more than 460 investors who are still waiting for construction to start. The absence of Meadows from Johnny Joseph's committee report surprises the buyers. Only three developers are identified in the study as having sold the 1,700 apartments. With MHADA, they are required to sign a consent agreement.
More than 14 years have passed since the project was supposed to start, and the contractor, Guruashish Construction Private Limited (GCPL), has become insolvent. Home buyers assert that a cooperative, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), has not yet taken any action.
The association requested permission from the Bombay HC to order MHADA to take over the abandoned project. The property owners claim they are ready to give the MHADA the remaining sums so that they can select new developers and finish the project. The Meadows development was envisioned with various wings, ranging from A to G, with more than 600+ units, mostly two- and three-bedroom apartments. This project also came to an end as the Patra Chawl rehabilitation project was suspended.
