The municipal corporation elections to be held in February 2017 , would be held under a panel system , with either two wards or four wards clubbed together to form a panel. It is likely that an ordinance to this effect would be brought out soon. But, this would not be applicable to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections to be held in Mumbai. It will be held under the present ward system.

Many Municipal corporations including Pimpri-Chinchwad, Solapur, Amravati , Nagpur, Nashik, Latur, Aurangabad, Pune, Thane are going for polls in February 2017.

Delegations from various political parties in the state are meeting government officials and CM Devendra Fadnavis in regard to the proposed panel system of voting. An official in Mantralaya said: “There is no decision yet, but we are receiving delegations from all over the state in this regard.”

It is believed that a report has been submitted by parliamentary affairs minister Girish Bapat to the Maharashtra CM in this matter.
