On the first day of the initiative led by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for door-to-door vaccination for the bedridden persons in the city of Mumbai, thirty-seven people were given Covid-19 vaccines at their residence. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) received 209 registrations for the drive from
K-East ward out of which 37 beneficiaries were given the Covaxin on Friday, stated the civic officials. They further said that they were no side effects or adverse reaction after the vaccination.
After a PIL was filed by the city-based Lawyers Dhruti Kapadia and Kunal Tiwari asking permissions from the Central and State Governments and the BMC to start a vaccination drive for the bedridden, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) conveyed their aim before the Bombay High Court to start a door to door vaccination drive for senior citizens and those who are immobile and over the age of 75 years.
The drive began on Friday around noon with 14 bedridden citizens at Dr. Niranjan Wagh Home, an old-age home, in Jogeshwari. From the people who were administered the vaccination were three persons who were above the age of 95 years. The beneficiaries were provided with the details of the nearest civic-run hospitals in case of any emergency after the vaccination. With this, 23 other individuals were also given vaccinations at their respective homes.
Two teams were having a doctor, nurse, and representative from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) who led the drive in Andheri, Jogeshwari East, and Marol areas of the Western Suburbs. For emergency purposes, an ambulance was also kept on standby in the area.
The draft policy submitted by the State Government to the Bombay High Court stated that only those bed-ridden people who have consent from a doctor to receive the vaccination will be administered the vaccination. The
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that “We are hopeful that this vaccination drive will speed up from the next week and more and more people will be contacting us as the awareness about the drive will increase.”
