BMC Elections 2022
BMC officials will have a busy year in 2023 because a few infrastructure projects are scheduled to be finished. Meeting the deadlines of major projects like the Coastal Road, the concretization of 400 km of roads, and the Mumbai beautifying project would be the local body's largest problem. On March 7, 2022, the BMC, an elected body of public representatives, was dissolved. The State Government selected an administrator after 38 years. Iqbal Singh Chahal, the administrator, currently makes all administrative and executive decisions. To monitor the development of Municipal activity, however, vigilance committees have been established in each ward and each zone.

The 10.58-kilometre coastal road that connects Nariman Point to Bandra-Worli Sea Link has over 70% of Phase 1 finished. Its deadline is November 2023, and it is connected via flyovers, subterranean tunnels, and arterial roadways. This year will see the beginning of the 24.29 km Phase 2 of the Coastal Road from Versova-Dahisar Link Road. Versova will be the starting point, and it will terminate at Dahisar-Bhayander Link Road in Dahisar. The project is anticipated to be finished in 2027 or 2028 at an estimated cost of Rs. 9,980 crores. The Versova-Dahisar Coastal Road and the Dahisar-Mira Road length would be put out to bid within three months, before March 2023, according to Additional Commissioner (Projects) P Velrasu.

By April 2023, construction on the Delisle Bridge, which will provide automobiles and pedestrians travelling east of the river with a link to the Lower Parel office sector, is anticipated to be complete. It was destroyed, and for the past four years, construction has been ongoing. Similarly to this, traffic in Andheri has gotten worse as a result of the closure of the vital East-West connection Gopal Krishna Gokhale bridge. The deadline for the bridge has been moved up to September 2023 due to public outrage.

Through the concretization of all roadways, the BMC has ensured a city devoid of potholes. To concretize 400 km of roads, the highest-ever tender of Rs. 6000 crores was recently floated. The BMC has also been responsible for repairing walkways and resurfacing roads. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has laid the cornerstone for 500 projects under this Rs. 1700 crores initiative. The project calls for the beauty of traffic islands, mural painting on walls, beach and garden lighting, and fort beautification. Additionally, 10,000 restrooms would be built in slum areas. By March 2023, the State Government hopes to have finished the project.
