OBC reservation ahead local body elections, state tells the panel to collect data on a prior basis
To restore reservation for the Other Backward Classes (OBC), it will be guided by the Maharashtra Government to the Maharashtra State Commission for Backward Classes (MSCBC) by collecting empirical data necessary in the state in the next few months. This decision came by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in the all-party meeting to make this issue better.

The commission that will be set up will be asked to go for the fastest way, to collate the empirical data in the next three to four months. In the meeting, it was also decided that the local body elections will be postponed till the empirical data is not collected. The committee further plans to bring an amendment in the legislation to give reservation to the Other Backward Class (OBC) in the 50 percent reservation cap which has been made mandatory by the Supreme Court (SC).

In local bodies, the political reservation of Other Backward Classes (OBC) is on the verge of doing away with, following an Apex Court verdict. Throwing away the Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation in the local bodies, it has been asked to the state to collect empirical data of the Other Backward Class (OBC) community to decide on it. This means that the community will not be getting any reservations until the empirical data is collected.

This has been a much-debated issue in the state of Maharashtra in regards to which the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held this second meeting in past one week to come up with a solution. This exercise was started soon after it was declared by the state election commission for the preparations for the upcoming local bodies elections with giving reservations to the Other Backward Classes (OBC).
