Chhath Pooja is a festival which provides a platform for political parties to reach out to a large number of Bihari voters in Mumbai. This time it’s the BJP organising Chhath Puja in a large scale at Mumbai’s Juhu Chaupati beach.

On the other hand, the Congress party is looking to revive its fortunes in the state and is taking this BMC Elections as a come back vehicle in state politics. Their aim to dent the Sena’s prospects in the upcoming BMC Elections 2017.

“This time we are only organising the Chhath Pooja at Juhu. It will be a big celebration where we are expecting more than 1 lakh people at the venue. We have our fixed voter so list we are not organising the Chhath Puja anywhere else keeping the BMC elections in mind. We’ve organised the Chhath puja every year says BJP leader Amarjeet Mishra

“BJP only celebrate Chart Pooja when there is any election at the corner. They are never serious about organising Chhath Puja. We have been continuously doing Chhath puja for the past 15 years.” said  Mumbai Congress Chief Sanjay Nirupam.

However, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena this time has threatened the other political parties not to politicise it. Waghes Saraswat, MNS leader stated ” We are not against the celebration of  Chhath Pooja but we are against politicising them. They should refrain from doing so. Many times MNS workers have given places to the parties to celebrate Chhath pooja.

This year, all political parties have used to religious events to used Mumbaikaars as vote banks. Whether it was Dahi Handi, Diwali cultural programmes for Marathi community or Dandiya night for Gujarathis or Chhath Puja for the Biharis, all these parties are trying hard to attract maximum number of votes from all communities before the crucial BMC elections.
