The Indian Railways' Western Railway (WR) zone, which runs the Mumbai suburban railway network, has stated that the city's important local trains will now travel at a higher speed. The announcement comes after the railways completed numerous important projects on the route to alleviate operational restrictions and improve train movement and safety.

The modifications are as follows: The permanent speed restriction (PSR) of 20kmph on Marine Lines, saving 2 minutes for every train or 560 minutes per day. Between Bandra and Khar, the PSR of 60 kmph has been lifted, saving 1.25 minutes every train or 307 minutes per day.

The three-line crossover at Santacruz has also been transformed into a two-line crossover, allowing officials to increase the speed from 15 to 30 kmph. The speed at Dadar's crossover 145/146 has been increased from 15 to 30 kmph, allowing trains to be received and sent more quickly from platform 6. Due to the enlargement of the shunting neck for 25 coach LHB rakes at Mumbai Central, shunting time has been decreased by 30 minutes.

"Senior official said, adding that it would help the Western Railway improve train punctuality by 2 minutes per train." Also, the speed at Bhayander's cross over 101/102 has been increased to 30 kmph from 15 kmph, saving 1.25 minutes every train." The common loop at Bhayander has also been upgraded to accommodate passenger trains, allowing for greater operational flexibility and train prioritization," the spokesman noted.
